Ango Manor

A clever mix of styles for rare architecture !

Ango Manor

Between land and sea, the architectural ensemble looks out to sea.

Before being renovated, the mansion of shipowner Jehan Ango went through many trials... We are located in the Dieppe region, in the center of Varengeville-sur-Mer. The house has enough personality to make us stop there.

From the start of the path, the place is enchanted. The Norman country was welcomed by the Italian Renaissance. The two structures intertwine in a harmonious way to represent a singular story, that of Jehan Ango. Around 1530, the Dieppe shipowner Jehan Ango planned to build a manor in the Dieppe hinterland, on his land in Varengeville. It is made up of a perfect combination of local materials: pink brick, known as Varengeville brick, flint and sandstone collected at the foot of the neighboring cliffs, while the patterns of the openings are sculpted in stones from the banks of the Seine. .

It is a magnificent model of Renaissance architecture mixed with Norman style: the brick and flint are polychrome, the main building and the outbuildings are grouped around the courtyard, formerly surrounded by ditches. There is no doubt that this evokes the structure of the Cauchois clos-masu re.
